Kundalini Yoga improves flexibility, tones muscles, calms the mind, and strengthens the nervous, glandular, circulatory, and immune systems. The practice of Kundalini Yoga allows energy to move more freely throughout your entire body and specifically balances the energy flowing through the chakras, energy vortexes from base of the spine to the crown of the head, plus the aura chakra that surrounds and protects the body. The Kundalini classes will explore a variety of asanas (postures), movements, mantras (chanting), mudras (hand positions), pranayama (breathing techniques), and meditation.
Kundalini literally means "the curl of the lock of the hair of the beloved", similar to the more popular definition of a "coiled snake". What both definitions refer to is the yogic life force that normally lies dormant at the base of the spine. Kundalini Yoga activates this energy and moves it safely up the spine so the other chakras can utilise and enjoy this abundant, joyful, unlimited source of energy, making it available for our daily lives.
There are 5,000 different kriyas or "completed actions" in Kundalini Yoga. Each kriya is a sequence of actions for a specific purpose. Some kriyas are meditative, some are vigorous, others are both. There are some general, whole being wellness kriyas, others are specific - for particular chakras, organs, glands, and conditions - depression, insomnia, and addictions to name a few.
Kundalini Yoga was taught in secret until 1969 when Yogi Bhajan challenged its secrecy by openly teaching Kundalini Yoga in the West. The yogic scriptures state that anyone teaching Kundalini Yoga publicly would not live to see their next birthday! However, Yoga Bhajan lived decades past 1969 - until 2004 - and Jeff has enjoyed quite a few birthdays since he began teaching as well.
Classes are open to all levels from complete beginners to those who have been practicing yoga for many lifetimes ! Kundalini Yoga has the flexibility to push past your comfort zone as well as offering the ability to go at your own pace.
Pam Skinner will introduce you to the Universal Energy Arts practices and her classes combine a fusion of all of these Arts. (i) Chi Kung which raises our vitality, strengthens our nervous systems and allows free flow of energy through our meridians. (ii) Chi Yoga - a soft, flowing combination of Chi Kung & Yoga in harmony with the Seasons. Pam's sessions comprise of Meridian Stretching & Tracing Chi Yoga flows, adapted to stimulate acupressure points as well as the energy channels, or meridians. This skillful practice activates the body's natural ability to heal itself: releasing blocked energy, cleansing the body of toxins and strengthening the practitioner's physical and energetic systems. The benefits of tuning into and flowing with the season while practicing Yoga can greatly enhance and balance your health and well-being on many levels. (iii) Mindfulness with Breathing brings us into the present moment and develops alert and sensitive awareness. (iv) Healing Sounds and Mantra chanting practices empower us, heals and harmonises our internal organs and energy centres. (v) Tai Chi brings perfect harmony with Nature, the Elements, raises our Consciousness and connects us to Divine Love. It is the art of the harmony of yin and yang in tangible form. It is a graceful, gentle form of physical exercise and meditative movements that reduce stress, increase strength, well-being, flexibility and natural balance. (vi) Guided Relaxation/Yoga Nidra where the physical body can relax and become still, to absorb the virtue and merit of the energy cultivated, yet the mind remains present and alert, encouraging deep healing to occur naturally.
Tai Chi, Chi Kung, Yoga, Healing Sounds and Meditation activate the body's natural ability to heal itself, releasing blocked energy, cleansing the body of toxins and strengthening the practitioner's physical, emotional, mental and energetic systems. By trying out different kinds of guided chi kung/Tai Chi mindful meditative movements, mantra/sound healing meditations and meditation chants is a great way find which skillful technique works best for you and when to use it. One meditation chant may affect you differently from another, just as one guided meditation will work for you in a way another does not. The only way to know is to experiment. In mantra meditation, the healing sounds resonate at certain frequencies that are the frequencies of creation. "Om" is the most often used mantra because it is the sound of creation.
CHI YOGA - Tai Chi & Chi Kung
This series of classes will combine the ancient Arts of Tai Chi and Chi Kung/Chi Yoga - energy-raising sequences tuning into Nature's Elements of each Season. Through mindful practice, each movement encourages our energy centres (chakras) and channels (meridians) to open resulting in a free flow of energy throughout our bodies. The freedom this facilitates overflows into our every day bringing us more readily into ease, alignment, strength, balance, harmony and peace of mind.
Sequences and practices can all be adapted to suit everyone. Each class is taught intuitively to suit the needs of those present.
Classes are open to all levels. I aim to create a comfortable environment for beginners whilst still challenging and engaging for long term practitioners.

Vinyasa yoga can be traced back to Indian yogi Tirumalai Krishnamacharya, (1888-1989) who is often called the father of modern Yoga. Krishnamacharya taught at the palace in Mysore India for many years. He was the teacher of BKS Iyengar, Indra Devi and Desikachar, as well as Pattabhi Jois, who went on to found the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore, where he taught Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga comprises of six dynamic thematic sequences, which were originally designed as a challenging exercise program for teenage boys. Ashtanga Vinyasa first came to the USA in the 1970's but didn't really grow in popularity until the 1990's when it became one of the most practiced forms of Yoga in the USA. While Ashtanga is fixed sequences, Vinyasa Yoga is made up of creative flows orchestrated by the individual teachers who teach it. Vinyasa Yoga still adheres to the same breathing technique and use of the physical locks or bandhas as Ashtanga Yoga. In Vinyasa Yoga more standing poses are woven into the sun salutations in a dance-like style. The sequences are always varied and often music is used to create atmosphere. There are as many different styles of Vinyasa Yoga as there are teachers of it. Some examples of different styles of Vinyasa Yoga are Jivamukti Yoga, Shiva Rea's Prana Flow, Baron Baptiste's Power Vinyasa Yoga, Core Power Yoga, Rocket Yoga, and Frog Lotus Yoga. Vinyasa draws from elements of Hatha Yoga practice. It is an accessible and eclectic blend of different styles of yoga designed to tone & stretch the whole body,relieve stress and create a deep experience of well-being.

Actions includes mostly asanas (postures), along with pranayama (breathing techniques), mudras (hand seals), mantra, and meditation. Since a Vinyasa practice focuses mostily on movement, it falls under the broad category of Hatha Yoga. This particular form of Vinyasa is taught by Jeff Gonet.
Pregnancy Yoga classes are suitable for pregnant women, whether they already practice Yoga or are new to Yoga. It is advised to only practice Yoga after the first 14 weeks of pregnancy. Mothers-to-be learn breathing techniques to help them relax and increase their energy throughout the pregnancy, birth and as they journey into motherhood.
Yoga poses are modified so that they are safe and suitable for pregnancy. Posture practice is gentle and focuses on maintaining stamina, building strength and increasing flexibility to help the body throughout its changes during pregnancy and also during birth; allowing the freedom to adopt many labour positions. Practicing poses to build mind and body awareness; giving the skills that help to reduce discomfort in pregnancy and during labour.
The classes have a relaxed and encouraging atmosphere allowing the mother-to-be, and also her baby, a precious opportunity to relax and enjoy this special time. Each 90-minute- class is completed with a deep guided relaxation, using positive visualisation and auto-suggestion. Mothers-to-be then return to their daily lives feeling confident, refreshed, vibrant and serene.
